Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Cake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. 3

    Beat Eggs and Sugar

In a separate bowl, beat eggs and sugar until pale and fluffy. Add vanilla extract and milk, mixing well.

  4. 4

    Combine and Bake

Gradually add dry ingredients to the egg mixture, mixing until just combined. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  5. 5

    Prepare Milk Soak

While the cake bakes, mix evaporated milk, sweetened condensed milk, and whole milk in a bowl.

  6. 6

    Soak the Cake

Once the cake is done and slightly cooled, poke holes all over the cake with a fork. Pour the milk mixture over the cake and allow it to soak for at least 1 hour.

  7. 7

    Make Meringue

In a clean bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar, continuing to beat until stiff peaks form.

  8. 8

    Top and Toast

Spread the meringue over the soaked cake and use a kitchen torch to toast the meringue lightly. Top with mixed berries before serving.
