Method

Cake

  1. 1

    Prepare the Oven and Pans

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks.

Chocolate Icing

  1. 8

    Prepare the Icing

In a medium bowl, sift the cocoa powder to remove any lumps.

  2. 9

    Cream Butter

In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.

  3. 10

    Mix Icing Ingredients

Gradually add the sifted cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the milk. Mix until smooth and creamy. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. 11

    Ice the Cake

Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of icing on top. Place the second layer on top and ice the top and sides of the cake.

  5. 12

    Serve

Slice the cake and serve. Enjoy your rich chocolate cake!
