Chicken Strips

Dipping Sauces

Method

Chicken Strips

  1. 1

    Prepare Chicken

Cut the chicken breast into strips, about 1 inch wide.

  2. 2

    Marinate Chicken

Place the chicken strips in a bowl and cover them with buttermilk. Allow them to marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to overnight in the refrigerator).

  3. 3

    Prepare Breading

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

  4. 4

    Heat Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Coat Chicken

Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge each strip in the flour mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

  6. 6

    Fry Chicken

Carefully place the coated chicken strips in the hot oil and fry for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Fries

  1. 7

    Prepare Potatoes

Peel and cut the potatoes into thin strips (fries).

  2. 8

    Fry Potatoes

In a separate pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potato strips in batches for 4-5 minutes until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels. Season with salt immediately.

Hushpuppies

  1. 9

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt.

  2. 10

    Mix Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, mix the milk, sugar, and finely chopped onion.

  3. 11

    Combine Mixtures

Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

  4. 12

    Fry Hushpuppies

Drop spoonfuls of the mixture into the hot oil (350°F/175°C) and fry until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 13

    Plate the Dish

Serve the chicken strips alongside the fries and hushpuppies. Offer ranch dressing, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce on the side for dipping.
