Cuban Coffee

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.

Prepare the Oven and Pan

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

In another bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Combine Mixtures

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the dessert to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. Cut into squares and serve.

In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the egg yolk and cold water, mixing until the dough forms.

Make the Dough

Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

In a bowl, mix the fruit jam and cream cheese until smooth.

Prepare the Filling

Slice the ciabatta bread in half. Slice the tomato into thin rounds.

Prepare the Ingredients

On the bottom half of each ciabatta slice, layer mozzarella cheese, tomato slices, and fresh basil leaves. Sprinkle with salt and black pepper. Place the top half of the ciabatta on top.

Assemble the Panini

Brush the outside of the ciabatta with olive oil. Preheat a panini press or grill pan over medium heat. Place the sandwiches on the grill and cook for about 3-5 minutes, until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted.

Wash all fruits thoroughly. Peel the oranges and pineapples, and core the apples.

Juicing

Using a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth, strain the blended mixture into a large bowl to separate the juice from the pulp.

Stir in the lemon juice and honey or sugar to taste. Mix well.

In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the onion and garlic until translucent. Add the bell pepper and cook for another 2 minutes. Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Stir in cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool.

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/8-inch thick. Cut into circles (about 4-6 inches in diameter). Place a spoonful of filling on one half of each circle, fold over, and crimp the edges to seal. Brush with beaten egg.

Assemble the Empanadas

Place the empanadas on a lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

In a pot or espresso maker, brew the Cuban coffee using the finely ground coffee and water. Once brewed, set aside.

Brew the Coffee

In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it is steaming but not boiling. You can froth the milk if you prefer a creamier texture.

Heat the Milk

In a large cup, combine the brewed Cuban coffee and sugar. Stir well until the sugar dissolves.

Combine Ingredients

Pour the steamed milk into the coffee mixture. Stir gently to combine.

If desired, sprinkle a little cinnamon on top for added flavor. Serve hot and enjoy your Café con Leche!

Take one slice of Cuban bread and spread yellow mustard on one side.

Prepare the Sandwich

Layer the roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, and dill pickles on the mustard side.

Spread yellow mustard on the second slice of bread and place it mustard side down on top of the sandwich.

Heat a skillet over medium heat and add butter.

Toast the Sandwich

Once melted, place the sandwich in the skillet and press down with a spatula.

Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes.

Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve warm.

In a small saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil.

Prepare the Coffee

Add 2 tablespoons of finely ground dark roast coffee to the boiling water, stirring well.

Reduce the heat and let the coffee simmer for about 5 minutes.

Remove from heat and allow the coffee grounds to settle.

In a separate container, mix 1 tablespoon of sugar with a few tablespoons of brewed coffee to create a paste.

Sweeten the Coffee

Once the coffee has settled, carefully pour it into a cup, leaving the grounds behind.

Add the sugar paste and stir until dissolved.

For a creamier texture, add 2 tablespoons of sweetened condensed milk to the coffee and mix well. Serve hot.
