Method
Preparation of Salad Base
- 1
Wash and Chop Romaine Lettuce
Remove the outer leaves of the romaine lettuce. Wash the inner leaves thoroughly under cold water to remove any dirt. Pat dry with a clean kitchen towel or use a salad spinner. Chop the lettuce into bite-sized pieces.
- 2
Grate Parmesan Cheese
Using a box grater or a microplane, grate the parmesan cheese until you have 0.5 cups. Set aside.
- 3
Prepare Croutons
If using store-bought croutons, measure 1 cup. If making homemade croutons, cut stale bread into cubes, toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper, and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for about 10-15 minutes until golden and crispy.
Preparation of Caesar Dressing
- 4
Mince Garlic
Peel the garlic cloves and mince finely using a knife or a garlic press.
- 5
Blend Dressing Ingredients
In a bowl or a food processor, combine minced garlic, anchovy fillets, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice. Blend until smooth.
- 6
Emulsify with Olive Oil
While blending, slowly drizzle in the olive oil until the dressing is well combined and emulsified. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
Assembly
- 7
Combine Salad Ingredients
In a large salad bowl, add the chopped romaine lettuce, grated parmesan cheese, and croutons.
- 8
Add Dressing
Drizzle the prepared Caesar dressing over the salad ingredients.
- 9
Toss and Serve
Using salad tongs, gently toss the salad until the ingredients are evenly coated with the dressing. Serve immediately.
