Prepare mixture
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, eggs, milk, minced garlic, parsley, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix gently with hands until just combined.

Shape meatballs
Shape the mixture into 1.5-inch meatballs and place on a parchment-lined baking tray or plate.
Sear Meatballs and Make Sauce

Brown meatballs
Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add meatballs in batches and brown on all sides. Do not cook through; transfer to a plate.

Combine sauce
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, sugar, and dried basil. Bring to a simmer and season with salt and pepper to taste.

Simmer meatballs in sauce
Return the browned meatballs to the sauce. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently, uncovered, for 60–90 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meatballs are cooked through and the sauce thickens.

Taste sauce and adjust seasoning with additional salt and pepper if needed.

Ladle meatballs with sauce onto plates or toss with cooked pasta. Top with coarse grated Parmesan and fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot.
