Method

Preparation Steps

  1. 1

    Prepare the Sauce

In a blender, blend the San Marzano tomatoes until smooth. Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat, add the blended tomatoes, and season with salt. Simmer for 20 minutes until slightly thickened.

  2. 2

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to its highest setting (usually around 500°F or 260°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up as well.

  3. 3

    Shape the Dough

On a floured surface, stretch or roll out the pizza dough into a round shape, about 12 inches in diameter.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Pizza

Spread a thin layer of the San Marzano tomato sauce over the dough, leaving a small border. Tear the mozzarella cheese into pieces and distribute them evenly on top of the sauce. Add fresh basil leaves.

  5. 5

    Bake the Pizza

Transfer the assembled pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from the oven, let it cool for a minute, then slice and serve hot garnished with additional fresh basil if desired.
