Calamari

Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Clean and slice the calamari into rings. In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, beat the eggs.

  2. 2

    Coat the Calamari

Dip each calamari ring first into the egg mixture, then coat with the flour mixture.

  3. 3

    Fry the Calamari

In a deep pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the calamari in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 2-3 minutes). Remove and drain on paper towels. Sprinkle with chili flakes.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Rustic Tomato Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in fresh basil just before serving.

  5. 5

    Serve

Serve the crispy calamari with the rustic tomato sauce on the side.
