Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, mix warm water (about 110°F) with sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until it forms a dough.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let it Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
Assembling and Baking
- 5
Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
- 6
Prepare the Sauce
While the dough is rising, prepare your tomato sauce. If using store-bought, ensure it is at room temperature.
- 7
Shape the Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll it out into a 12-inch circle or shape it with your hands.
- 8
Add the Toppings
Transfer the shaped dough onto a pizza peel or a floured surface. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface, tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces, and distribute them on top. Add fresh basil leaves and drizzle with olive oil.
- 9
Bake the Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza onto the hot pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 10
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a minute, slice it, and serve hot with additional fresh basil if desired.
