Marinara Sauce

Method

Calamari Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare Calamari

Rinse the cleaned calamari under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Mix well.

  3. 3

    Dredge Calamari

Dip each calamari ring into the beaten eggs, allowing excess to drip off. Then, dredge in the flour mixture until fully coated. Shake off excess flour.

  4. 4

    Heat Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  5. 5

    Fry Calamari

Carefully add the calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the fried calamari with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 7

    Sauté Garlic

In a saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

  2. 8

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

  3. 9

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

  4. 10

    Serve with Calamari

Serve the marinara sauce hot alongside the fried calamari for dipping.
