Method

Preparing the Lava Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and grease four ramekins with butter and dust with cocoa powder.

  2. 2

    Melt Butter and Chocolate

In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the butter and chocolate chips. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until completely melted and smooth.

  3. 3

    Mix the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted chocolate mixture with granulated sugar. Mix well until combined. Then, add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and salt.

  4. 4

    Add Flour

Gently fold in the all-purpose flour until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

  5. 5

    Fill Ramekins

Pour the batter evenly into the prepared ramekins, filling them about 3/4 full.

  6. 6

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are set but the center is still soft.

  7. 7

    Cool Slightly

Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool for about 1 minute.

Serving the Lava Cake

  1. 8

    Plate the Lava Cake

Carefully invert each ramekin onto a plate to release the lava cake. Gently tap the bottom of the ramekin if needed.

  2. 9

    Add Ice Cream

Top each lava cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  3. 10

    Drizzle and Dust

Drizzle chocolate sauce over the top and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
