Ingredients for Chocolate Mousse
Method
Directions for Chocolate Mousse
- 1
Melt the Chocolate
Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces and place in a heatproof bowl. Set the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method), ensuring that the bowl does not touch the water. Stir occasionally until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- 2
Prepare the Egg Yolks
Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. In a medium bowl, whisk the egg yolks with granulated sugar until pale and creamy. Gradually add the melted chocolate while whisking continuously until well combined.
- 3
Whip the Cream
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream with the vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.
- 4
- 5
Combine the Mixtures
Gently fold the whipped cream into the chocolate mixture until combined. Then, carefully fold in the beaten egg whites in three additions. Be gentle to keep the mixture light and airy.
- 6
Chill the Mousse
Spoon the mousse into serving dishes or glasses. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
- 7
Serve
Once set, serve the chocolate mousse chilled. You can top with additional whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries if desired.
