For the Onion Rings

Method

Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the cold sparkling water. Combine both mixtures until just smooth.

  3. 3

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Then, coat them with breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Fry the onion rings in batches for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove them with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
