Bread Directions
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the top and stir gently. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Combine Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt until well combined.
- 3
Mix the Dough
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the frothy yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Stir until the mixture begins to come together into a dough.
- 4
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- 5
First Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.
- 6
Shape the Dough
After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Turn it out onto a floured surface, shape it into a loaf or divide it into smaller portions for rolls.
- 7
Second Rise
Place the shaped dough into a greased loaf pan or on a baking sheet. Cover it with a cloth and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes or until it has doubled in size.
- 8
Preheat the Oven
While the dough is rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- 9
Bake the Bread
Once the second rise is complete, place the dough in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- 10
Cool the Bread
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
