Method

Cheese Preparation

  1. 1

    Grate the Cheeses

Using a box grater, grate the Gruyère and Emmental cheeses and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare Cream Cheese

Soften the cream cheese by letting it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then cut it into small pieces for easier melting.

Cooking the Dip

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine the grated Gruyère and Emmental cheeses, softened cream cheese, and minced garlic.

  2. 4

    Add Liquid Ingredients

Pour in the white wine and add the cornstarch and lemon juice. Stir well to combine all ingredients.

  3. 5

    Melt the Mixture

Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook, stirring frequently, until the cheese is completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

  4. 6

    Season the Dip

Add grated nutmeg, salt, and black pepper to taste. Stir well to combine and remove from heat.

Serving

  1. 7

    Prepare Dippers

Arrange the cubed French bread, vegetable sticks, and pretzels on a serving platter.

  2. 8

    Serve the Dip

Transfer the melted cheese dip to a fondue pot or a serving bowl, and serve immediately with the prepared dippers.
