Tea Base
Mint Simple Syrup
Method
Prepare the Tea Base
- 1
Boil the Water
In a large pot, bring 16 cups of water to a boil.
- 2
Steep the Tea
Once the water is boiling, remove it from heat and add 8 black tea bags. Let it steep for 10-15 minutes, depending on your desired strength.
- 3
Add Lemon Juice
After steeping, remove the tea bags and stir in 1 cup of lemon juice. Allow the tea to cool to room temperature.
Make the Mint Simple Syrup
- 4
Combine Water and Sugar
In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1 cup of granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- 5
Add Mint Leaves
Once the sugar has dissolved, add 1 cup of fresh mint leaves to the syrup. Remove from heat and let it steep for about 30 minutes.
- 6
Strain the Syrup
After steeping, strain the syrup through a fine mesh sieve to remove the mint leaves. Allow it to cool.
Combine and Serve
- 7
Mix Components
In a large pitcher, combine the cooled tea base with the mint simple syrup. Stir well to combine.
- 8
Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 hour to chill before serving. Serve over ice and garnish with additional mint leaves if desired.
