Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

Prepare the Brownie Batter
In a medium bowl, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.

Mix Dry Ingredients
In another bowl, sift together cocoa powder, flour, and salt.

Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined. Do not overmix.

Pour into Pan
Spread the brownie batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.

Prepare the Cookie Dough
In a large bowl, beat together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, and mix well.

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.

Layer on Brownies
Spoon the cookie dough over the brownie layer in the baking pan, spreading it evenly.

Bake the Brookies
Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the cookie layer is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Allow the brookie to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
