Gather Ingredients
Collect all the ingredients needed for the grilled cheese sandwich: bread, cheddar cheese, butter, and any optional ingredients you plan to use.
Butter the Bread
Spread 1 tablespoon of butter evenly on one side of each slice of bread.
Cooking
Assemble the Sandwich
Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on a skillet over medium heat. Layer the cheddar cheese slices on top, followed by any optional ingredients like tomato or bacon. Top with the second slice of bread, buttered side up.
Cook the Sandwich
Cook the sandwich for about 3-4 minutes or until the bottom slice is golden brown. Carefully flip the sandwich using a spatula.
Finish Cooking
Cook the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes until golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Serving
Slice and Serve
Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it cool for a minute. Slice it diagonally and serve warm.
