Prepare the Chiles
Remove the stems and seeds from the dried chiles. Heat a skillet over medium heat and toast the chiles for about 2-3 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.

Soak the Chiles
Place the toasted chiles in a bowl and cover them with hot water. Let them soak for about 20 minutes until they are soft.

Sauté Onions and Garlic
In a large pot, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent.

Add the chopped tomato to the pot and cook for an additional 5 minutes until the tomato softens.

Drain the soaked chiles and add them to a blender along with the sautéed mixture, broth, and water. Blend until smooth.

Pour the blended mixture back into the pot. Add the ground cumin, cinnamon, black pepper, and salt. Bring to a simmer and cook for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
