Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk, heavy cream, and granulated sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves.

Prepare the Egg Mixture
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and cornstarch until smooth.

Cook the Base
Return the combined mixture to the saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon (about 5-7 minutes).

Cool and Add Flavors
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Churn the Ice Cream
Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

Serve immediately for soft serve, or transfer to a container and freeze for a firmer texture.
