Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Form it into a ball and place it in a greased bowl. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  3. 3

    Shape the Knots

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the risen dough and turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 10 inches long, then tie into a knot and tuck the ends underneath.

  4. 4

    Bake

Place the knots on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. 5

    Prepare Garlic Butter

While the knots are baking, melt the butter in a saucepan over low heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes. Stir in chopped parsley and salt to taste.

  6. 6

    Serve

Once the knots are out of the oven, brush them with the garlic butter. Serve warm with marinara sauce mixed with Italian seasoning for dipping.
