Fried Clams
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Clams
Rinse the clams under cold water and remove any sand or grit. Pat dry with paper towels.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together egg and milk. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients until well combined.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Fry the Clams
Dip each clam into the batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered clams in the hot oil and fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- 5
Serve
Serve the fried clams hot in a basket with fries and coleslaw on the side.
