1. Prepare the Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into patties.

2. Grill the Burgers

Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Brush the grill with olive oil to prevent sticking. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes. Place a slice of cheddar cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

3. Toast the Buns

On each toasted bun, layer lettuce, a grilled patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, pickles, onions, ketchup, and mustard as desired. Top with the other half of the bun.
