Method
Base Sparkling Water
Chill
Ensure the carbonated water is well chilled (about 38°F / 3°C). Cold liquid keeps carbonation and gives a crisp mouthfeel. Use a 12 oz can or measure 12 oz into a chilled can or can-shaped container.
If using a can, open it just before assembly to preserve fizz.
Grape Flavor
Prepare Grape Flavoring
If using concord grape juice concentrate (unsweetened): dilute the 1 tsp concentrate with 1 tsp cold water to make it easier to disperse. If using a concentrated natural grape extract, use 1 tsp undiluted.
Brighten
Add 1 tsp fresh lemon juice to the diluted grape flavoring and stir gently. Lemon juice balances sweetness and enhances perceived grape aroma without adding sugar.
Taste a drop of the flavoring mixture; it should be strongly grape-forward but not sweet. Adjust by adding up to an additional 1/2 tsp diluted concentrate or extract if a stronger grape note is desired. Do not add sweeteners to maintain 'no sugar' profile.
Assembly & Garnish
Combine
Pour or gently spoon the prepared 1+1 tsp grape/lemon flavoring into the bottom of a chilled 12 oz can or glass. Slowly add the 12 oz chilled carbonated water down the side to minimize foaming and preserve carbonation. Stir very gently with a bar spoon (1–2 slow turns) to distribute the flavor evenly without flattening the soda.
Ice & Garnish (Optional)
If using ice, add 3 small ice cubes to a glass only (do not add ice to a sealed can). Garnish with 3 halved grapes or a thin slice of grape on the rim and a mint sprig for aroma. Serve immediately.
For a canned product presentation (12 oz can): pre-mix flavoring directly into the can at packaging using the same proportions per 12 oz can to achieve a no-sugar, no-sodium, zero-calorie flavored sparkling water. Ensure flavoring is fully water-dispersible and food-safe for shelf stability.
