Oil for frying
Method
Preparation
- 1
Wash and Cut Potatoes
Begin by washing the russet potatoes thoroughly under cold running water to remove any dirt. Once clean, cut each potato in half lengthwise, and then slice each half into thin strips about 1/4 inch thick to create fries.
Soaking
- 2
Soak the Cut Potatoes
Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water. Allow them to soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch, which helps achieve a crispier fry.
Fry Spice Preparation
- 3
Mix Fry Spice
In a small bowl, combine salt, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir until well mixed and set aside.
Frying
- 4
Heat Oil
In a large, deep skillet or a fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 5
- 6
Drain and Season
Using a slotted spoon, remove the fries from the oil and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Immediately sprinkle the fry spice mixture over the hot fries while they are still hot for even coating.
- 7
Repeat
Repeat the frying process with the remaining batches of fries, ensuring the oil temperature remains consistent.
Serving
- 8
Serve
Once all fries are cooked and seasoned, serve them immediately while hot. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauces!
