Dough

Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Make Dough

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs. Mix until a dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead Dough

Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Prepare Filling

In a small bowl, mix together garlic powder, Italian seasoning, olive oil, and chopped parsley. Set aside.

  2. 5

    Shape Dough

Once dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.

  3. 6

    Add Filling

Spread the filling mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese on top.

  4. 7

    Cut and Stack

Cut the dough into strips about 2 inches wide, then stack the strips on top of each other. Cut the stack into tree shapes or triangles.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 8

    Transfer to Pan

Grease a baking sheet or a large cast-iron skillet. Arrange the tree-shaped dough pieces on the pan, with the pointed end facing up.

  2. 9

    Egg Wash

Brush the tops of the dough shapes with the egg wash.

  3. 10

    Add Toppings

Sprinkle sea salt on top to taste and any additional chopped parsley for garnish.

  4. 11

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the pull-apart bread for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

  5. 12

    Cool and Serve

Allow the bread to cool for a few minutes before serving. Pull apart the pieces to enjoy!
