Arepa Dough

Cooking

Method

Prepare Arepa Dough

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the arepa flour, warm water, and salt. Stir until the mixture forms a soft, pliable dough. Let it rest for about 5 minutes.

  2. 2

    Shape the Arepas

Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball. Flatten each ball into a disc about 1/2 inch thick.

Prepare Cheese Filling

  1. 3

    Mix the Cheese Filling

In a separate bowl, combine the cheese, butter, and garlic powder. Mix well until the cheese is evenly coated with butter and spices.

Stuff and Cook the Arepas

  1. 4

    Stuff the Arepas

Take one arepa disc and place about 2 tablespoons of the cheese filling in the center. Fold the arepa over to encase the filling and pinch the edges to seal. Repeat with the remaining arepas.

  2. 5

    Fry the Arepas

Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the stuffed arepas and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and crispy.
