Dip Base

Method

Caramelizing Onions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel and slice the yellow onions into thin strips.

  2. 2

    Cook the Onions

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sprinkle with salt. Cook, stirring frequently, for about 10-15 minutes until they start to soften.

  3. 3

    Caramelize the Onions

Continue to cook the onions for an additional 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are deeply golden brown and caramelized. If the onions start to brown too quickly, reduce the heat to low.

  4. 4

    Cool the Onions

Once caramelized, remove the skillet from heat and let the onions cool slightly before adding to the dip mixture.

Making the Dip

  1. 5

    Mix the Base

In a mixing bowl, combine the cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. Mix until smooth and well combined.

  2. 6

    Add Seasonings

Stir in the garlic powder and black pepper into the cream cheese mixture.

  3. 7

    Incorporate Caramelized Onions

Fold in the cooled caramelized onions into the dip base until evenly distributed.

  4. 8

    Garnish (Optional)

If desired, chop fresh chives and sprinkle on top of the dip before serving.

  5. 9

    Chill

Cover the dip and refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.
