Method
Preparation of Cake Base
- 1
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- 2
Cream Butter and Sugar
In another bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy using an electric mixer.
- 3
Add Eggs and Vanilla
Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
- 4
Combine Mixtures
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
- 5
Prepare for Baking
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a rectangular baking pan (about 9x13 inches).
- 6
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- 7
Cool the Cake
Once baked, allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Decorating the Cake
- 8
Prepare Icing
While the cake cools, prepare your icing according to the package instructions or your favorite recipe.
- 9
Color and Ice the Cake
Divide the icing into small bowls and add food coloring to each to create different colors. Once the cake is completely cool, spread a layer of icing over the top.
- 10
Add Decorative Elements
Sprinkle edible glitter over the icing and arrange mini chocolates or candies on top to represent the advent calendar doors.
- 11
Cut into Squares
Using a sharp knife, cut the cake into 24 equal squares to represent each day of the advent calendar.
