Patty Melt Ingredients

Method

Cooking Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Slice the onion into thin rings. In a skillet over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of butter. Once melted, add the onion and sauté until they are soft and caramelized, about 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally and season with a pinch of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook the Bacon

In the same skillet, add the bacon slices and cook until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels, leaving the bacon fat in the skillet.

  3. 3

    Form and Cook the Patties

In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Form into two patties. In the skillet with the bacon fat, cook the patties over medium-high heat for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until they reach your desired doneness.

  4. 4

    Assemble the Patty Melt

On one slice of rye bread, layer a patty, two slices of Swiss cheese, some crispy bacon, and the caramelized onions. Top with another slice of rye bread.

  5. 5

    Toast the Sandwich

In the same skillet, melt another tablespoon of butter. Place the assembled sandwich in the skillet and toast on both sides until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  6. 6

    Serve

Remove from the skillet, slice in half, and serve hot.
