Ingredients for Fish and Chips
Method
Directions for Preparing Fish and Chips
- 1
Prepare the Tartar Sauce
In a bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, finely chopped pickles, lemon juice, and capers (if using). Adjust seasoning to taste and refrigerate until needed.
- 2
Prepare the Potatoes
Peel the potatoes and cut them into thin fries. Soak them in cold water for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. Drain and pat dry.
- 3
Make the Beer Batter
In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually whisk in the beer until the batter is smooth and thick.
- 4
Fry the Potatoes
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Carefully add the prepared fries in batches and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels. Season with salt.
- 5
Fry the Fish
Dip each fish fillet into the beer batter, allowing excess to drip off. Carefully place in the hot oil and fry for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- 6
Serve
Serve the crispy fish with the fries on the side and a generous dollop of tartar sauce.
