Onion Rings
Method
Preparation and Cooking
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Peel the onions and slice them into 1/4 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.
- 2
Make the Batter
In a large bowl, combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Gradually whisk in the cold water until the batter is smooth and thick.
- 3
Heat the Oil
In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 4
Fry the Onion Rings
Dip each onion ring into the batter, allowing the excess to drip off. Carefully place the battered rings into the hot oil in batches, without overcrowding. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
- 5
Drain and Serve
Remove the fried onion rings with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot in a basket.
