Method
Cooking Pasta
- 1
Boil Water
In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Use enough water to completely submerge the spaghetti.
- 2
Cook Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 8-10 minutes.
- 3
Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.
Making Meat Sauce
- 4
Sauté Vegetables
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion, diced carrot, and diced celery. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
- 5
Add Garlic
Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
- 6
Brown the Meat
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes.
- 7
Add Tomatoes and Wine
Stir in the crushed canned tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Bring to a gentle simmer.
- 8
Season the Sauce
Add dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 9
Combine Pasta and Sauce
Once the sauce has thickened, add the drained spaghetti to the skillet. Toss to combine and heat through.
- 10
Serve
Serve the spaghetti bolognese hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
