1. Prepare the Grits
In a large pot, bring the water to a boil. Stir in the grits and salt, reducing heat to low. Cover and cook for about 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Once the grits are thick and creamy, gradually stir in the milk and continue to cook for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and sharp cheddar cheese until melted and well combined.
