Cooking Instructions
1. Prepare the Steak
Remove the Tomahawk steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 1 hour before cooking. This helps to ensure even cooking.
2. Season the Steak
Rub the steak with olive oil, then season generously with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, rosemary, and thyme on all sides.
3. Preheat the Grill
Preheat your grill to high heat (about 450°F to 500°F). If using charcoal, ensure the coals are evenly distributed.
4. Sear the Steak
Place the steak on the grill and sear for 4-5 minutes on each side until a nice crust forms.
5. Cook to Desired Doneness
Reduce the heat to medium and continue to cook the steak, turning occasionally, until it reaches your desired level of doneness (about 130°F for medium-rare, 140°F for medium). This should take about 20-30 minutes depending on thickness.
6. Rest the Steak
Once cooked, remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.
7. Serve
Slice the steak against the grain and serve with your choice of sides.
