Crust and Brownie Batter

Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pretzel Crust

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Crush the pretzels into fine crumbs and mix them with melted butter in a bowl. Press this mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish to form a crust.

  2. 2

    Make the Brownie Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, and melted butter. Mix until well combined. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.

  3. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

  4. 4

    Layer and Bake

Pour half of the brownie batter over the pretzel crust, then drizzle half of the caramel sauce on top. Pour the remaining brownie batter over that, and top with the rest of the caramel sauce. Use a knife to swirl the caramel into the batter slightly.

  5. 5

    Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  6. 6

    Cool and Serve

Let the brownies cool in the pan before cutting into squares. Serve warm or at room temperature, optionally drizzling with extra caramel sauce.
