Method

Meatballs Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  2. 2

    Mix Meatball Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until fully combined.

  3. 3

    Form Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter, and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. 4

    Bake Meatballs

Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are cooked through and browned.

Marinara Sauce Preparation

  1. 5

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent.

  2. 6

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in the crushed tomatoes and add dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir to combine.

  3. 7

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 8

    Assemble Sandwiches

Once the meatballs are done, add them to the marinara sauce to coat. Cut the sub rolls in half and place the meatballs inside each roll.

  2. 9

    Add Cheese

Top each sandwich with provolone cheese and sprinkle with Romano cheese.

  3. 10

    Melt Cheese (Optional)

For an extra touch, place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 2-3 minutes to melt the cheese.

  4. 11

    Serve

Serve the meatball sandwiches warm, and enjoy!
