Method

To Prepare the Onion Rings

  1. 1

    Slice the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2 inch thick rings. Separate the rings and place them in a bowl.

  2. 2

    Soak in Buttermilk

Pour the buttermilk over the onion rings, ensuring they are fully submerged. Let them soak for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Breading

In another bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, salt, black pepper, and baking powder.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep pot or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Bread the Onion Rings

Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk, letting the excess drip off. Dredge the rings in the flour mixture, shaking off the excess flour.

  6. 6

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully add the breaded onion rings to the hot oil in batches, frying until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

To Prepare the Ranch Dressing

  1. 7

    Mix the Dressing Ingredients

In a bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Stir until smooth.

  2. 8

    Chill the Dressing

Cover the ranch dressing and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
