Instructions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Onions

Peel the onions and slice them into 1/2-inch thick rings. Separate the rings and set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and black pepper. Gradually add the stout beer, whisking until the batter is smooth and well combined.

  3. 3

    Heat the Oil

In a deep frying pan or pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  4. 4

    Coat the Onion Rings

Dip each onion ring into the batter, ensuring they are fully coated. Allow excess batter to drip off.

  5. 5

    Fry the Onion Rings

Carefully place the battered onion rings in the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch.

  6. 6

    Drain and Serve

Remove the onion rings from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve hot with Russian dressing.

  7. 7

    Make the Russian Dressing

In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, and Worcestershire sauce until well combined. Adjust seasoning to taste.
