Method

Salad Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Greens

In a large salad bowl, add 4 cups of field greens as the base of your salad.

  2. 2

    Cook the Bacon

In a skillet over medium heat, cook 6 slices of bacon until crispy, about 6-8 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels, then crumble into bite-sized pieces.

  3. 3

    Chop the Vegetables

Dice the cucumber, grate the carrot, thinly slice the red onion, and halve the cherry tomatoes. Add all the prepared vegetables to the salad bowl with the greens.

  4. 4

    Add the Cheese

Grate or cube 1 cup of smoked gouda cheese and sprinkle it over the salad.

Crouton Preparation

  1. 5

    Prepare the Bread

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Cut 2 cups of bread into cubes.

  2. 6

    Season the Croutons

In a bowl, toss the bread cubes with 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of black pepper until evenly coated.

  3. 7

    Bake the Croutons

Spread the seasoned bread cubes on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake for 10-15 minutes until golden brown and crispy, stirring halfway through.

Final Assembly

  1. 8

    Combine and Serve

Once the croutons are done baking, add them to the salad bowl along with the crumbled bacon. Toss everything gently to combine. Serve immediately.
