Method

Preparation of Meat

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pork Shoulder

Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into large chunks.

  2. 2

    Apply the Dry Rub

In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, paprika, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Rub this mixture all over the pork chunks, ensuring even coverage.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Slow Cook the Pork

Place the seasoned pork shoulder in a slow cooker. Set it to low and cook for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily pulled apart with a fork.

  2. 4

    Make the Sauce

In a saucepan, combine apple cider vinegar, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, honey, and hot sauce (if using). Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally for about 10 minutes.

Serving

  1. 5

    Shred the Pork

Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and let it rest for a few minutes. Use two forks to shred the pork into bite-sized pieces.

  2. 6

    Combine with Sauce

Toss the shredded pork with the prepared sauce until well coated.

  3. 7

    Assemble the Sandwiches

Place a generous portion of the pulled pork on the bottom half of each hamburger bun. Top with coleslaw and cover with the other half of the bun. Serve immediately.
