Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Season the Pork

In a small bowl, combine paprika, brown sugar, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Onion and Garlic

Chop the yellow onion and mince the garlic cloves. Set aside.

Cooking

  1. 3

    Sear the Pork

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the seasoned pork shoulder and sear each side until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove from skillet and set aside.

  2. 4

    Saute Onion and Garlic

In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. 5

    Slow Cook the Pork

Transfer the sautéed onion and garlic to a slow cooker. Add the seared pork shoulder and pour in the chicken broth. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

Finishing Touches

  1. 6

    Shred the Pork

Once cooked, remove the pork shoulder from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board. Use two forks to shred the meat into pieces.

  2. 7

    Serve

Serve the pulled pork warm, drizzled with BBQ sauce and enjoy!
