Method

Pork Preparation

  1. 1

    Seasoning the Pork

In a bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Rub the mixture all over the pork shoulder.

  2. 2

    Cooking the Pork

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Sear the pork shoulder on all sides until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.

  3. 3

    Slow Cooking

Transfer the seared pork shoulder to a slow cooker. Cook on low for 8 hours or until the meat is tender and pulls apart easily.

BBQ Sauce Preparation

  1. 4

    Mixing the Sauce

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir until well combined.

  2. 5

    Simmering

Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.

Pickles Preparation

  1. 6

    Preparing the Brine

In a saucepan, combine white vinegar, water, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium heat until the sugar and salt dissolve.

  2. 7

    Pickling the Cucumbers

Slice the cucumbers into thin rounds and place them in a jar. Pour the brine over the cucumbers and add dill. Seal the jar and refrigerate for at least 24 hours before serving.

Assembly

  1. 8

    Serving the Pork Platter

Once the pork is cooked and tender, shred it using two forks. Serve the pulled pork on a platter with the homemade BBQ sauce drizzled on top and the pickles on the side.
