Method

Brownie Base Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang to help lift the brownies out later.

  2. 2

    Melt the Butter

In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the 1 cup of unsalted butter. Once melted, remove from heat.

  3. 3

    Mix Sugars

Stir in the granulated sugar and brown sugar into the melted butter until combined.

  4. 4

    Add Eggs and Vanilla

Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract.

  5. 5

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.

  6. 6

    Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix. Fold in the chocolate chips.

  7. 7

    Pour Batter into Pan

Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Pecan Topping Preparation

  1. 8

    Prepare Pecan Topping

In a small saucepan over low heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir in 1 cup of chopped pecans, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the pecans are well coated and fragrant.

  2. 9

    Add Pecan Topping to Brownies

Spread the pecan topping evenly over the brownie batter in the pan.

Baking and Serving

  1. 10

    Bake the Brownies

Bake the brownies in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  2. 11

    Cool and Cut

Remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, lift them out using the parchment paper overhang and cut into 15 bars.

  3. 12

    Serve

Enjoy your pecan brownie bars warm or at room temperature!
