Method

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil the Pasta

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, usually around 7-8 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Making the Cheese Sauce

  1. 2

    Create the Roux

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour until smooth, cooking for about 1-2 minutes until bubbling but not browned.

  2. 3

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Continue to cook until the mixture thickens, around 5-7 minutes.

  3. 4

    Add Cheeses

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the cheddar, Monterey Jack, Parmesan, and cream cheese until melted and smooth. Season with salt and black pepper.

Combining and Baking

  1. 5

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked elbow macaroni with the cheese sauce, stirring until the pasta is fully coated.

  2. 6

    Prepare the Topping

In a small bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs and melted butter until the breadcrumbs are well coated.

  3. 7

    Bake

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture on top. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
