Fried Pickles

Method

Fried Pickles

  1. 1

    Prepare the Pickles

Drain the pickle chips from the jar and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  2. 2

    Make the Batter

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until evenly combined.

  3. 3

    Dip the Pickles

Pour the buttermilk into a shallow dish. Dip each pickle chip in the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture until evenly coated. Set aside on a wire rack.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Pickles

Carefully add the coated pickle chips in batches to the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Serve the fried pickles hot with the housemade ranch on the side for dipping.

Housemade Ranch

  1. 7

    Mix the Ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, dried dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and chopped chives.

  2. 8

    Whisk Together

Whisk all the ingredients together until smooth and well combined.

  3. 9

    Chill

Cover the ranch dressing and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
