Method
Preparation
- 1
Prepare Chicken
Cut the chicken breast into strips approximately 1 inch wide. This will help them cook evenly and quickly.
- 2
Marinate Chicken
Place the chicken strips in a bowl and pour in the buttermilk. Make sure all pieces are well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight, to tenderize the chicken.
Coating
- 3
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well blended.
- 4
Dredge Chicken
Remove the marinated chicken from the refrigerator. Take each piece and allow excess buttermilk to drip off before dredging in the flour mixture. Ensure each piece is fully coated.
Frying
- 5
Heat Oil
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). You can test the oil by dropping a small piece of the coating in; it should sizzle immediately.
- 6
Fry Chicken Tenders
Carefully add the coated chicken tenders to the hot oil in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 4-5 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
- 7
Drain and Serve
Once cooked, remove the chicken tenders and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauces.
