Method

Preparation of Absinthe

  1. 1

    Step 1: Infusion

In a large glass jar, combine the dried wormwood, anise seeds, fennel seeds, star anise, and angelica root. Pour the high-proof alcohol over the herbs, ensuring they are completely submerged. Seal the jar tightly.

  2. 2

    Step 2: Steeping

Let the mixture steep in a dark, cool place for about 2 weeks. Shake the jar gently every few days to help extract the flavors.

  3. 3

    Step 3: Straining

After 2 weeks, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container, discarding the solids.

Sweetening and Bottling

  1. 4

    Step 4: Sweetening

In a small saucepan, combine the strained absinthe with water and sugar cubes. Heat gently, stirring until the sugar is fully dissolved. Be careful not to boil the mixture.

  2. 5

    Step 5: Final Bottling

Once the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has cooled, transfer the absinthe to bottles using a funnel. Seal tightly and label the bottles.

Serving

  1. 6

    Step 6: Enjoying

To serve, pour a shot of the absinthe into a glass and slowly drip ice-cold water over a sugar cube placed on a slotted spoon above the glass. Stir gently to mix. Enjoy responsibly!
