Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Make the Simple Syrup

In a small saucepan, combine equal parts sugar and water (1 cup sugar to 1 cup water). Heat over medium heat until the sugar is completely dissolved. Let cool before using.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Glasses

Chill your desired cocktail glasses in the refrigerator or freezer to ensure your drink stays cold longer.

Mixing the Cocktail

  1. 3

    Combine Ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, combine the fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, dark rum, and a drop of black food coloring. Fill the shaker with ice cubes.

  2. 4

    Shake Well

Shake the cocktail shaker vigorously for about 15 seconds until the mixture is well combined and chilled.

  3. 5

    Strain into Glass

Remove the chilled glasses from the refrigerator or freezer. Strain the cocktail mixture into each glass, filling to about two-thirds full.

Garnishing and Serving

  1. 6

    Add Garnishes

Drop a few blackberries into each glass and garnish the rim with a lemon slice. If desired, sprinkle a bit of edible glitter on top for a spooky effect.

  2. 7

    Serve Immediately

Serve the Spooky Sour immediately with a straw or cocktail stirrer. Enjoy your dark twist on the classic sour!
