Method

Waffle Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Whisk together until well blended.

  2. 2

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  3. 3

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; small lumps are okay.

  4. 4

    Preheat Waffle Iron

Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

  5. 5

    Cook Waffles

Pour the batter into the preheated waffle iron and cook according to the appliance instructions, typically for about 5-7 minutes, until golden brown.

Fried Chicken Preparation

  1. 6

    Marinate Chicken

Place the chicken breasts in a bowl and pour the buttermilk over them. Allow them to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 7

    Prepare Breading

In a shallow dish, mix together the all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. 8

    Bread Chicken

Remove the chicken from the buttermilk and let the excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring it’s well coated.

  4. 9

    Heat Oil

In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. There should be enough oil to submerge the chicken halfway.

  5. 10

    Fry Chicken

Carefully place the breaded chicken into the hot oil. Fry for about 6-8 minutes on each side or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F).

  6. 11

    Drain Chicken

Once cooked, remove the chicken from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

Serving

  1. 12

    Assemble Dish

Place a waffle on a plate, top with a piece of fried chicken, and add another waffle on top. Drizzle with maple syrup and add a pat of butter if desired.
